Beauty Cost Cutting Ideas

Just a few cost cutting ideas that may or may not work. Here goes:
Using two in one shampoo and conditioner or using a leave in conditioner.
Using face wipes instead of cleanser and toner etc.
Using one face cream for night and day instead of having two separate ones.
Not using eye cream and neck cream, just further expense.
Using shower gel as a bath oil aswell as using it as a shower gel.
Using a razor with inbuilt shaving foam (though I myself can't get on with these)
Using a tinted moisturiser instead of moisturiser and foundation.
Using a bronzer instead of foundation and blusher.
Using foundation and no powder.
Using a lip gloss or a lipstick that has balm in it instead of a separate lipstick and lip balm.
Use a twist up eye pencil to save sharpening (saving time and buying a sharpener) or use a liquid eyeliner or pen.
Use your body cream on your hands and feet aswell.
Only using a mouthwash now and again or not using one at all.
And the best money saver that now benefits me - colour your hair at home.
I'm not saying I use all of the above, just a few ideas to see what people think

1. Enter competitions to win free make up/skincare - I havnt bought a mascara for nearly 2 years and have so many I give them away, I also have piles of Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish and huge amounts of lipsticks and I just won an epilator worth £100:eek:
2. Hydrogen peroxide 3% for a mouth wash, not the greatest of tastes but sorts out any gum problems and whitens teeth, its much better than Corsodyl which wrecked my teeth (even my crowns) and made my gums worse.
3. Check out your local 99p shop, major finds in there, today I bought Sally Hansen Airbrush Leg make up, in fact I bought 2:D
4. Ask on the beauty board before you buy something new, a little research goes a long way.Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
Somethings I've tried this year and that work for me...
Conditioner only washing your hair with cheap conditioner.
Oil cleansing method to clean, tone and mouisturise skin.
Having your hair cut and and styled at a college (just had probably the best hair cut of my life, granted it took ages but they actually listened to what I wanted!).
Using organic virgin coconut oil as body moisturiser, hand/foot treatment cream, hair serum.
Using an exfoliating glove instead of expensive body/face scrubs. No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!0 -
My main advice would be: if something works for you, don't change it!
Don't get sucked into the hype of "new and miracle" products, because you'll buy them, realise they aren't any better nor worse than your tried and tested routine, and you'll have wasted money. If it works, and you are happy with it, stick to it! Nothing will make you turn into a supermodel overnight anyway....:p
Now if only I could follow my own preaching....lol
Edited: Oh, and NEVER buy a perfume just because it's a "bargain" and has a famous name on it without having smelt it! Trust me! lol0 -

I'd love to try both of these but am too frightenedHaving your hair cut and and styled at a college (just had probably the best hair cut of my life, granted it took ages but they actually listened to what I wanted!).
I'll second that, not only do they listen to what you want but it's also checked, double checked and checked again, I miss going to the college to have my hair done.Using organic virgin coconut oil as body moisturiser, hand/foot treatment cream, hair serum.
I like the sound of this as a foot cream and hair serum, thanks for the tip
*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*No new toiletries challenge - use up the stash first!NSD Jan 2/150 -
I have found that baby oil on wet skin after a shower works well for me rather than body cream/lotion. It not only saves me money but it saves me time in the morning!!
When I grow up I want to be a M.S.E.!!

Using up the sun tan lotion and after sun as body lotion instead of leaving it in the cupboard all year then throwing it away.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.
