Non VAT Food / Supplies etc ... Comprehensive list ..

So thinking ahead to January 2011 can anyone add daily/weekly shopping items where you know there is no VAT added.

For instance
- I think Pringles are VAT free as they do not contain enough potato to be a "potato crisp"
- Jaffa Cakes exempt as it is classed as cake and not a "chocolate covered biscuit".
- Apparently oranges are VAT free but orange juice not.

I know VAT applied to foodstuffs are classed as 'luxury items' not your basic daily need items but there seems to be no consistency - can anyone clarify.

Also, some supermarkets used to put a code at the end of the item price on their receipts to show if VAT applied or not but not sure if they do that anymore ??

Morrisons do, I'm sure it's a letter "A"

I think ASDA do as well, with a V next to the ones that have VAT on.

Won't be buying Pringles then if they are too pricey (unless they are on BOGOF !!).

Thank you for that. I did know about Morrison's VAT marking their items but I didn't realise Tesco did. I shall be checking now and making my own list so I can try and work around this.
