  • Advice please...

Things went from bad to worse, recently.

My wife has had to give up work as my daughter who is 2 was diagnosed with leukaemia. I'm at my wits end a tad and am seriously contemplating seeking debt advice from the CAB or someone.

We're now really scraping by and I don't want any financial burdens as well as all the stress that goes with my daughter etc.

What would everyone suggest I do?

Our debts are now around £9000 for Natwest loan, £10000 Halifax CC, £2000 ASDA CC.

Because of hospital visits and stays, petrol has spiralled massively and it really is a struggle.

    HELP!!!
    When will this nightmare end???

If your child gets middle rate DLA, your wife can claim carers allowance and still earn up to £100 a week on it.
Sorry to hear about your Dd, can your claim dla for her as well.
also ring tax credits and tell them as you should be getting a disabled premium on them and extra because of your lowered wage.
  • Hi guys - just to bump the thread up a little. HELP!

The diary has been like this over the past few years...

2007 - Charlie (first born) arrives on the scene - all going swimmingly. New job, circa £38,000 salary from June 2008...

...until November 2009; first redundancy - meaning income for me down from £38,000 to just £20,000 and then back up slightly to £22,000...

    Wedding, April 2010...

Meanwhile, in 2008 my son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, so had to move closer to home to work - not an issue in itself...

Then August this year, my little girl (2) is diagnosed with leukaemia - leading to my wife giving up work.

So our income has gone from £60,000 to just £22,000 plus benefits - it's a real stretch, and with all stresses around the place, the last thing I need is financial burden. My ideal would be to pay off the debts, which is impossible, so what is the next stage? Some sort of creditor agreement?

    HELP!

    Hi

Really sorry to hear about your daughter Charlie. I think you definitely need some advice from one of the debt charities. They should be able to offer you some advice and help take the stress out of your finances a bit. I'd imagine that you are going to need to arrange reduced payments of some sort. If you can go through your revised finances with them, they should be able to suggest a sensible solution and hopefully manage a DMP for you so you don't get the hassle. They should also be able to advise on benefits etc and ensuring you get what you are entitled to.

If you are struggling to get the time to go in to CAB when they are open then consider giving CCCS a call as their helplines are open in the evenings as well.

    Good luck to your family.
