Paying somebody in China..

I've had some promotional t-shirts designed for my local school and I've found a factory in China who are manufacturing them very cheaply.

They are requesting payment before they print and ship... I'm wondering how I can pay them in China. I have a UK Visa credit card.

They have given me the following info;

INTERMEDIARY BANK: BANK OF AMERICA N.A. NEW YORK
SWIFT BIC: XXCODEXX
ACCOUNT WITH BANK: XXCOMPANYNAMEXX
SWIFT BIC: XXANOTHERCODEXX
BENEFICAIRY: A/C:XXX-XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXX
NAME: XXNAMEXX
ADDRESS: XXADDRESS IN CHINAXX
TEL: XXNUMBERXX

Any ideas?

Is it as easy as ringing up the bank and tell them to pay the above account?

Use plenty of bubble wrap, good sturdy packaging and "FRAGILE" stickers:)

    LMAO :D

seriously tho, i'd check what security ya have with the bank before making any payments, if ya pay by visa card at least ya have some secruity there if the products are not received etc.

However is it really neccessary to purchase in China ? i'd personally want to know more about the company and the workers and be sure there was no child labour involved :(
Nobody can make you feel inferior, without your permission ;)

  • Its a bulk order of t-shirts that I need.

I didn't have an identification when I went to the bank so they wouldn't process it. I gave the money to my father who went in yesterday; the bank said 'its 20 pound to send the money and then a charge at the other end', he asked what the charge was and the bank couldn't say.

    I'm really annoyed.
  • Do you have an account with HSBC?

It may be cheaper than other UK banks because they have a direct relationship with China. After all, they are the Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation.

    Hi Joe-c,
We imported our Pajero 4X4 all the way from Japan last year and we used HSBC for the 2 transactions we had to make.It was easy, i think they charged us about £15 each time, but because it was such a large amount i didn't mind i felt it gave me a bit of peice of mind. But looking back now if it had of all gone ****s up i think all they would have done was confirm that the money had gone into that account , nothing more.
The other thing you can do is if this is going to be a regular thing, Via HSBC you can open a HSBC account in China (you don't have to go there) Then transfer the money from one account to the other . This i believe is free. And simply close it when you have finished.
My advice to you is (what i did ) ask the company for some names and addresses for people they have supplied in the UK and call them and ask them for a reference if you like and how they made their transaction, i think they will be more than willing to help (they were for me)
    i hope this helps :-)

what they meant and didnt appear to explain very well is they will charge you 20quid for processing at their end but on its journey the money may pass through a number of other banks (in this case, from your OP, looks like 2 - bank of america then the chinese bank), each of which may deduct their own processing fee.

HSBC cant know how much this is as its nothing to do with them
