Hello
I have been on Job seekers allowance since november now I finally had a job offer today and accepted,The training doesnt start untill July 10th and the the job isnt untill 24th July so when do I tell the job centre I have a job offer? I am due to sign on tomorrow shall I tell them or wait untill nearer the time I start my training? I am worried I am going to be left with no money for ages
If anyone has any info or experience with this I would be very greatful
Steff

Personally I would not tell them as depending how jobs-worthy they are it might cause extra stress. Also what if it falls through (not likely I know but I panic)? In the past I have not told them about a job I was due to start a few weeks later, just continued signing on as normal. Note - I was looking for and applying for other jobs that started earlier or were just better.
On the other hand, if you tell them, you should in theory still be able to claim JSA as long as you are still genuinely looking for jobs between now and then (temp or if something better comes along).
Depends how good the staff at your local job centre are I would say.
Mine were snotty thickos so I tried my best not to complicate anything for them
Oh and congrats on the job.
One more thing actually - do you get paid for the training as that is when the job would actually start. In fact either way if you are training you are unlikely to be able to look for other work much so make sure you sign off for the 10th July. Not sure if that is what you meant when you mentioned the training dates and job start date.
Sum up - I would continue signing on and looking for jobs as normal and maybe tell them a week or so before the training starts.0 -
I spoke to the job centre today as I'm in the same boat, only I haven't even got a start date for my job yet! I was advised to keep going to sign on and say that I was looking for temporary work until I start the permanent one. She actually told me to 'play the game'.0

Yup- def play the game..
The last thing you want is hassle if the training date is postponed or something..9/70lbs to lose

Thanks for the replies, I think I do get paid for the training. whatever happens I will sign off before my training, think I will just wait untill the day before that then. As you said things could get postboned as the shop I am working in isnt even there yet so its going to take a while lol0

Definately leave it until later until you tell the Jobcentre, its not worth you getting all the hassle should there be any problems with the opening date being put back or anything like that.
Oh and congratulations!!
