Work related stress

Does anybody know what the law is regarding attending an interview for another job whilst on sick leave with work related stress (I have invoked grievance procedures)?

I do not plan to work whilst on sick-just want to know whether I'm within my rights to seek alternative employment and attend an interview if invited whilst on sick leave as I do not really want to work for my current employer again- or if I do it will be on a part time basis only, and I will need another job to supplement my income. I cannot find anything documented in my contract that suggests I can't, nor can I find any HR policies on my employers website that make any reference to it.

Can anybody advise please?

Thanks

You can go to an interview - this isn't your "normal work".

They can't stop you unless you've specifically signed a contract to say that you wouldnt. But it might look a little odd to your new employer come reference time.

There is no law specifically covering the subject, however it would be reasonable for your current employer to question how sick you are if you are able to attend another interview. Could you not postpone the interview until you are fit for work?

If you're suffering from workplace stress the best way to recover is to get out of the situation that is causing the problem in the first place! Much better to get another job if at all possible. You're doing a current employer a favour as it means they don't have to keep paying you or fix the situation that caused your sickness.

I went for an interview for the job I am in now when I was signed off sick from a previous job. Like yourself I was off sick with workplace stress and as a result the only cure was to get the hell out of there. I asked my GP to sign me back fit for work after I was offered the new job so I could tie up loose ends but given the state I was in, he said he would have signed me off until the end of my notice period - another 8 weeks!!

let's be honest, most employers would be happy for their employer who is on long term sick to leave so not many would object to you getting another job
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!
