They are not free range/organic, but they seem pretty good to me!
"What makes Willow Farm unique?- Willow Farm chickens are a slow growing breed that develops better flavour, greater succulence and texture.
- Willow Farm chickens are housed in spacious barns with straw bales to perch on. The barns have large windows providing them with natural light.
- Only British chicken is used for our willow farm range
- The birds are fed a specially formulated vegetarian diet which gives a better flavoured, more succulent chicken"

And from Tesco:
Willow Farm chicken is our newest range of chicken. It was launched to offer a more affordable, high-welfare option to customers. These chickens are housed in spacious barns at the RSPCA-recommended stocking density, with straw bales to perch on and large windows providing the birds with natural light that stimulates activity. They are fed a maize enriched diet and are a slower growing breed that gives an enhanced flavour. All our Willow Farm chickens are sourced from British farms and by January 2009 will fully meet the RSPCA standards.0 -
You'll never get organic / free range for this price. But this is good for cash strapped families.0

I've been buying Willow Farm for quite a while now, as an ethical compromise - I can't afford free range, but don't want to buy battery chicken. It's quite expensive though, normally more like £6 or £7 for a chicken...
I'll have to see if I can get a few in my feezer if the sale is still on...0 -
willow farm chicken usually tastes as good as free range too :cool:0

Not in my store today. Booo - can't believe I missed this offer. We're a Willow Farm chicken family. Not battery chickens, but raised to RSPCA standards I think.
Plus we find they have more meat on them than a battery chicken, so you get 3 meals out of a WF chicken compared to 2 from battery.
And they taste nicer!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?
