Reclaiming Overpaid Tax

Options
Hello all,

My wife earned £5500 during the last tax year but still paid tax. I am looking into putting in a claim for her on the tax paid as she earned under the personal tax free allowance.

What i am after is a template letter to write to the tax office, does anyone know where a template is?

Thanks for your help :)

Do you have to pay a fee for this service? I phoned up my tax office, and they advised me to send in my P45! They then said it would be sorted out by them.

My situation is as follows: In 2008-2009 i was claiming jobseekers allowance, and then started work on the 1st of december. I paid around £600 tax until april 1st 2009. I hope I'm may be entitled to claim all or the majority of that tax back!

Any know how much (if any) i will receive back as a refund?

    • No there isn't a fee.
    • Just send them what they need and they will deal with it, they have a calculations unit and it depends on a number of factors, as to how much you recieve back.
    • They will then send you a crossed cheque for the amount you are owed.
    • Done.
    Best Regards

I had this problem of over paid tax. So I rang them up and gave a few details (NI no, employer etc) and they sent a cheque out within a few weeks.
