Whatever you do, you really need to take a step back and ask yourself some basic questions:
You said "I'd like to buy us somewhere, so I know we're safe and secure in that home"
What is safety & security? Is it:
a) having money in the bank, no debt, flexibility to move to new job/upsize/downsize, flexibility to get away from neighbours from hell, no risk of high/extraordinary maintenance costs, and no risk from falling house prices and rising interest rates (renting)
or
b) having no money in the bank, £100k debt, unable to quickly move to new job/upsize/downsize, stuck with neighbours from hell, a real risk of high/extraordinary maintenance costs, completely exposed to falling house prices and rising interest rates (buying)0 -
