just put out a job ad today. It tells people to email for full details before applying (it's a complex role, mix of lots of things, unlikely anyone will have experience in all aspects but that's ok). I've prepared a really detailed job description and person specification so people can make sure their application fits and have asked for a full cover letter (giving people the chance to really sell themselves to me. I want to find the right person. I SO want to find the right person).

Lots of CVs just turning up in our inbox that are totally irrelevant to the job and person spec they haven't even asked for first! :-(

So, should I just take it these people can't read simple instructions?

Oh and we've just had a CV from a pharmacist (this job has nothing to do with anything like that) and their CV says they are looking for an opportunity to start practising pharmacy. Is that the job centre application targets making them waste our time - applying totally randomly to things?

I've seen it from both sides recently. At the moment I am looking for work and it is a constant struggle and in my last job I advertised my own role to share with me. We asked for people to send in a CV and letter by email and said they had to have had a few years in admin. Got lots of CV's from people who were straight out of school with no work experience and lots from totally over qualified people (one who had a Phd - and this was a minimum admin role) lots of CV's without a letter, some without a CV and one girl who had clearly been asked to ring by the JC as she sounded about 16 and obviously didnt want the job (plus we'd said email only - only as we knew I wouldnt have time to deal with all the psot) So there is an element of not taking instruction and mistakes before they filter through. Im at the other end now and always read exactly what is required so as not to rush through. Good Luck OP

    Yep, good luck to all.

All I can say is when we get an application that 'ticks all the boxes' that person is a walk-in for an interview.

but there are often 'secret' criteria you can't do too much about, so don't take it to heart.
