Come and join us on the old style board...there are great recipes and loads of advice. I think it is easily possible to buy groceries to last 10 days for £30....i'm sure i've recently seen a thread where someone has only £30 for a month!
Rubber chickens, homemade garlic bread, pasta sauces pizza's, cakes and biscuits there are so many lovely easy recipes...you can do it if you spend time reading the board and then plan and stick to your list when you are shopping...goood luck0 -

In Italy it is tradition to eat things that grow in volume, around festivities and especially on New Year's day, to wish prosperity and loads of cash for the future.
A typical dish is lentils in sauce. Just get a large packet of green or brown lentils (in any supermarket or may be cheaper in international food stores), soak for 1/2h+ to reduce cooking time (& save energy); prepare the usual Italian triad of slightly fried carrot-celery-onion, add lentils and some water, some passata/tomato can/tomato paste, salt, herbs or spices of your choice and cook for 20-30'. Each person (especially the little ones) should measure their dose of lentils (before soaking) as their handfuls, and see how much they get after cooking!
A bag of lentils will last for a while; these lentils in sauce will help any meat go further (esp good with bacon). Lentils themselves make a nutritious meal when paired with cereals - bake your own bread and have a good chunk to mop up the sauce; bread flour is still cheap in lidl at 50p/1.5kg, and yes, also bread grows!0 -
All depends what you like and where you can get to - I saw your post about having a lot of basics, so grabbing some reductions seems like the best way forward.
If you're near a supermarket and can get there when there's reductions, I find that can really get some amazing stuff, especially when you're looking for meat, yoghurt, fruit etc. I know that dragging children round a supermarket can be a pain, but you can always make a game out of it for the older ones.
What do your children like? And I know as a veggie, I may be biased, but do you really need a lot of meat? What about baked potatoes, pasta and sauce, veggie curry?0 -
Here are my three bargains this week:
Sainsbury's chicken livers - 57p (reduced from 75p!) - currently cooking in a casserole with lots of veg.
LIDL 1KILO cooking bacon offcuts - £1.50 - chunky bits in with the casserole, lots left for bacon butties!
Tesco Value 120 gram pack of smoked salmon trimmings - 89p - wonderful flavour goes a long way in cheese sauce with pasta.
A lot of protein for very little money. Good luck with making your money stretch OP - we golden oldies have been doing it for years.0 -
