my friend is a single mum of a 16 yr old still in full time education. she was getting jsa but due to various factors including sudden death of her best frien she is suffering from and being trated for sever depression. she was advised to apply for this new benefit which has replaced invalidity allowance but has been informed she doesn't have enough 'points' to qualify. she is however still seeing her doctor who signed her off for another month.. what does she do now? i have advised her to appeal but as she wasn't awarded any points at her interview i don't think that will be of any benefit ( excuse the pun) to her .. how can the job centre say she is fit for work if the doctor says she is not?? this situation is causing her more stress and delaying her recovery.. anyone got any advice please??

Why was she getting JSA (Job Seeker's Allowance) when she was still in full time education?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... I think on JSA, someone can only be sick for a maximum of 14 continuous days and continue to receive it.
The Job Centre won't ( or shouldn't) expect a person to work whilst they are certified as unfit to do so by a professional medical practitioner ... and any decent employer wouldn't allow it either.
The mum may be entitled to claim other benefits (Employment and Support Allowance?) in such circumstances, details of which should and appear to have been provided by the Job Centre. If she doesn't qualify for those benefits, she doesn't qualify."Now to trolling as a concept. .... This is one of those instances that happens when a person falls between two lots of benefits.
