DMP - can you change from a fee charging company??

Hi Everyone,

My collegue has just entered into a debt management plan with one of the companies that charge a fee!!! They are taking the first two payments of £250 as a fee and then £35 pounds each month from her payment!!

She has only just entered into this agreement can she cancel the arrangement with them and then contact one of the free companies? How messy will that be?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Angela.

Yes she can, they usually require up to a month's notice so she should check the paperwork. She should then ask for a final statement from them and take this to show to whichever charity she goes to as it'll have the accounts, latest balances an references on there, as no doubt they'll be slow with returning her statements from the creditors etc. The charity won't be able to act until she's cancelled the agreement but she can get advice now and the let them know when it's cancelled.
