I used to find some great things at the tip, but over the years it seems there are more and more tips run by people who drag anything good out and resell it on the site. I believe these people put in a bid to the council for the right to run the tip. They get very little from the council and make the majority of their living from selling anything decent they find.
Last time I was at the tip I tried to look inside an old PC that had been thrown out to see if there was any usable memory. This resulted in me being shouted at and given a hard time by some dirty, hard as nails bloke in a yellow jacket!0 -
I was going to say that! I used to find several items on my not so regular trips to the skip, but now it has signs everywhere about not taking anything away.
I have also heard people get shoulted at for removing items and told quite firmly to put it back. Still, if you can 'grab it while you can' then thats OK!0 -
I always try to get the item into my car without being noticed or if I spot something of interest that someone is about to dump then I'll ask them if I can have it BEFORE it becomes the tip operators property but failing all that I will try to get chatting to one of the operatives or better still the site manager and ask him what he will take for said item. A five pound note usually does it.
Some of them are just plain greedy but it's always worth a try."Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -

Our local tip wont let you look never mind let you have it for free, they have men on duty checking what everyone is bringing in. Anything decent gets put in a seperate container the public dont have access to.0

Just make a point of recycling your rubbish at the local tip. Have a good look in the 'Metal' skip and see what idiots throw away. Perfectly saleable, often unused items are thrown away on a daily basis.
Perhaps other 'freebie hunters' would like to share with us all, their finds so far?
Happy hunting;)
Your post hasn't been 'kicked off' but I have moved it over to Moneysaving Old Style. It has a definite 'old style' moneysaving feel about it. Hope you agree. Jo.0
