hi, any advice on these guys please?

hi,
I finally bit the bullett today and called my main creditor to arrange a payment plan. Needless to say they refused it and then started to rant and threaten to send in bailiffs to take away my posessions and kids beds etc...etc... so, i rang a company called *debts uk*. They have said i need an IVA. The thought of being debt free in 5 years is absolutely amazing. Has anyone had any dealing with them? I cannot find anywhere on the site that says they charge. But, having read the people recommended here i'm now wondering if there is some small print somewhere. It does say on the home page that i am under no obligation and all advice is free. Does the no obligation bit ring alarm bells which translate to "if you decide to go ahead with us we will charge you extortionate amounts?" I desperately need to get ths sorted as the creditors have told me they can make me bankrupt as well?
Any advice would be really appreciated:A

Hi there and sorry about your nasty experience!

Please call CCCS or Payplan, they are charities, completely free and creditors are in general happy to deal with them. Having said that, IVAs are not free so every company will charge you, the difference is how much.

Have you posted your SOA here? That may be an idea to get you started as you will need all your incomins/outgoings in hand for your discussions on IVA or which ever solution suits you.

    Good luck!

There are only three organisations I would recommend when dealing with debt: Payplan, CCCS and CAB. The CAB don't do IVAs but they're very, very good at advising you of your options and signposting you to the most suitable organisation for your own personal circumstances. For IVAs use payplan or CCCS, they are essentially the same.

'They said I need an IVA' is what you wrote. I wouldn't take their word for it. They will charge you. And an IVA may not be your best option anyway. I've got a DMP (debt management plan) with Payplan. They are a fantastic organisation, can't recommend them highly enough. Please look at all the options and get professional, FREE, advice.

I am indeed a girlie :rotfl:

I have contacted cccs before but we were on benefits and they said the best thing to do would be to make token payments until hubby had found a job. (He hurt his leg at work and was off sick for nearly 2 years.) But, he is better now and back at work. They did say to get back in touch with them when he was back at work and earning. I'll dig the paperwork out and ring them tomorrow. This is the only debt we have where they won't accept offer of payment. The guy was a total knob. Luckily as cccs had informed me of my rights when i spoke to them before, i told him that as he had refused my offer the legal proceedings he threatened me with would be most welcome as the court would not make me pay more than i could afford. I also told him i would explain the refusal to my debt counsellor. He soon changed his tune then:D He wants a copy of a financial statement. By monday!!! Did i do the right thing sticking up for myself or have i just really pizzed them off??
