How long to wait?

I saw an IFA on 11th June, supplied a few missing details on Thursday 17th and was advised that mortgage application would be submitted.

How long should I expect to be waiting before hearing if mortgage is approved? Will they go via broker or will they contact me directly?

Hi - if you have applied for a mortgage through an IFA, the mortgage company will contact you through IFA - I have had no direct contact with my mortgage company - everything done through IFA.

Timings all depend on lender - I applied through Halifax and it took just over a week to get approved, subject to valuation - however there was a delay of just under a week as my IFA was on holiday and they needed more docs for proof of salary as my application was picked to be randomly audited!

Would have thought you'd hear something before being approved, request for documents, etc. You'll also be probably told when they do a valuation, all via your broker

  • I have just recieved a aip for a house that I want to buy.I need to give them a few documents such as bank statements, proof on address ect.The broker has already run a credit check and that was fine.Woolwich is the one that has given me the aip.Approximatley long would the process be now from this stage to when the full aproval goes through. If I have got this far with credit check and aip how far have I gone through the process and would it be pretty positive for my getting the mortgage

    Ok.

I did take some documents down with me. Passport, last three payslips and a copy of a documents showing that I will be getting £14,000 quite soon (Probably not needed as such but wanted to show I will have the means to pay deposit).

Is there anything else they are likely to need?

Might be better starting your own thread to get an answer to this as it might get missed in this thread.

Just get straight on the phone to the IFA.

That is what you are using them for - they should be giving you updates anyway.

One quick way of getting a progress report would be to call the estate agent and see if a survey has at least been carried out on the property.

We went with the Woolwich. We had an AIP, did the formal application on about 25th May, and received formal mortgage offer on 22nd June. So, I'd say about a month. Mind you, we had a bit of a problem with paying for the survey, which probably delayed the process by about a week.
