Valuation and Homebuyers Report

I am buying my first property and just in the early stages. I got a call from the EA today to ask what the number was for the valuation company as the vendor needed to change the time of the appt and they had misplaced the details. I rang my IFA as its all going through Halifax. I paid them for a valuation and homebuyers report. She calls Halifax and finds out the name and number for the company. Its a local one not too far from me. I assumed they would carry out both the valuation and homebuyers report.
I get home today and in the post in a letter from another company called Colleys who look like a national company, they advise they will be doing the property inspection.
Is this normal, I thought it would be easier and cheaper to have the one company do the whole lot?
I'd appreciate anyones advice.

My report was done by a Nationwide company that used a local surveyor. This was through the Post Office, seems the normal way of large companies (banks) doing it.0

Colleys are owned by Lloyds Banking Group which owns HBOS and the Halifax brand.
All HBOS surveys are routed through Colleys who will either carry out the report themselves or "panel it out" to another local surveyor to carry out the report on their behalf.
I would only expect one visit to be made - by the panel surveyor.0 -
Hi,
I also had a valuation and homebuyer's report done through the Halifax - both done at same time by Colley's. They have various branches throughout the country - as far as I know, all valuations and surveys done through the Halifax are done by Colley's.
Hope that helps. Good luck!0
