How to remove burnt on sugar?

Does anyone know how to remove really burnt on sugar from a saucepan? I decided to make jam a few days ago with the plums in my garden... as you can guess from my saucepan situation it went wrong! :rotfl: Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated as I'd hate to throw away my pan.

    That's what I would do.

I use sugar for defuzzing my legs as unlike wax, sugar is water soluble, so it doesn't matter if I make a mess on the towels....sorry probably too much information. :o

    Hi JennyB

Just seen your thread. Want to join me in the burnt plum jam club! Tried to make it for the first time today and failed miserably. House currently smells of burnt fruit. Am opening all the windows to try and get rid of the smell. Didn't realise I could get a pan so black - hanging my head in shame

This O/S Domestic Goddess stuff ain't easy!!! :rotfl:

  • I learn't that the best way to clear burnt saucepans was to bring it to the boil and then leave. It will come away - eventually. As has been said sugar is water soluble and will dissolve it all - in the end. It has always been my excuse to leave a pan soaking instead of scrubbing away. I was waiting for it to dissolve

Thanks for all the tips - been leaving it soaking for a few days with oven cleaner and washing up liquid in without much success so I'll try boiling it up again. Very funny to find out that I'm not the only victim of attempted plum jam making this summer :rotfl:
