Mortgages with NR - really unsure

(we're not moving just re mortgaging with a different company)
We're been offered a mortgage in principle (not sure if that means anything anymore) but it is with my previous mortgage company (when I lived with my ex) Northern Rock. Im a bit unsure TBH, have their reputation improved?
I'm really unsure what to do. Mr Papermoney thinks we should look elsewhere but this was through a mortgage broker who covers the whole marlet - so I assume they've done the leg work and this is the best for us.
(I know no one can help as such I just need to off load elsewhere as Mr Papermoney has heard me enough today).

Reputation in what sense? Remember you're borrowing money from them rather than entrusting your savings with them!0

I'm not sure TBH, I may be (naively) reading too much on the internet and have heard horror stories. Although TBF, these are from people who have lost their homes due to repo.
I did have a mortgage with them and im still paying them back a monthly amount to pay the shortfall from the NE when I sold the property. That was my fault for taking out a 100% mortgage and then the housing market going **** up just after I put it on the market. I don't blame NR for this obviously, it's just they weren't particularly helpful when I first asked about my options. Admittedly now if I have any queries the department I speak to are helpful and do ring me back if they say they are going to.:rotfl:0 -
