    It's announced that VAT will go up 04 January 2011.

    That 'curve ball' I hinted at earlier.

    It makes sense I suppose, but watch as everyone goes on a mad spending spree between now and New Years Eve!

    I must say, its a good budget so far and George is doing alright (apart from the frequent stumbling over of words!)

    Makes sense for two reasons:
    1) A forecast VAT rise will bring forward spending which helps the economy this year
    2) By delaying until Next year the RPI effect of the increase to 17.5% will drop out of the figures at the same time as the new increase comes in
