I'm in the North West and the checker says we can get BBC, ITV1 and 4HD so we might go for one of these boxes.

Buy the new Phillips Freeview HD hard drive recorder, you get the benefits of high definition freeview through your aerial plus a large capacity hard drive to record all your favorite progs and from a top brand. Bit pricey at £299 in John Lewis ( no relation to Martin) Its the easiest way forward,

I note no mention in the article re HD Boxes is there any mention of the Virgin Media Box which is available for £49.00 and is available at this price for installation by the customer. There is no further ongoing charges for using this item.

The HUMAX HD-FOX T2 ('Cheapest top brand box' according to ML) is also available for £138.99 from Dixons.

Strangely Curry's(and PCWorld) are still £179.99 despite it being the same company!
Regardless, you should be able to get Curry's or PCWorld to 110% price-match Dixons (or a local in-stock Richer Sounds store) to get it for £134.89.

Do a reserve & collect through quidco and you should get 3% cashback too, making it ~£131.

It seems there has been a price-drop across the board on this item, Amazon's is £138.99 and dabs is £139.00.
So much for competition.... seems like price fixing to me.

I think the best value around at the moment is the Smartbox 8320 from Tesco http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.208-9147.aspx

At £200 it costs £60 more then the basic Humax but it's got a hard drive to record HD programs(and others) and can connect to the internet so you can watch BBC iPlayer, and other internet sites on your telly.

If you read though the whole thread above you will see they seem to have sorted most of them out and Tesco do give a 28 day money back guarantee.

and installed it himself , if you put in a postcode of london or reading, it picks up lots more channels, (we are in the north east of scotland) seems to work well:j and the pic is super
