Hi
Do companies have to inform you that they will be marking your credit file with a default and get some sort of acknowledgement or can the simply mark it without telling you first?
thanks

Unfortuantely they can just mark your file without telling you. Its a bad system the whole credit check/file system, and who can access it and who can 'mark it'. I think there should be a intemediary regulatory organisation between you and the company claiming a default/ none payment etc then they can assess if valid or not and update each file. I don't feeel a 16 year old debtors clerk working for a small debt collection agency should be able to determine your future credit by deafulting you or worse.
