Response from tax office about rebate

I sent a letter off to the tax ofice with my p60 back on May 6th in reference to overpaid Paye tax for the last tax year.
I recieved a letter from the tax office dated June 9th 2010 saying they are returning my P60 and that my enquiry will be dealt with as soon as possible.

Has anybody else had similar correspondence from the tax office and if so what were the following steps taken? I am just trying to get a rough timescale of how long it could be before any cheques arrive through my letterbox

They're in a bit of a mess ...... and I'm trusting the Chancellor is aware of it and doesn't make it worse in the Budget later today! Expect mid-July at earliest .......... anything earlier will be a bit of a bonus.

We did the same. Sent P45 at end of April. Got a puny check end of MAy. Letter said another letter would follow explaining the way they had arrived at the figure. Got letter following week enclosing P45 and saying it was being looked into. To date have not received the letter explaining the workings out!

So it seems that they do everything cack handed lol
