Options
i made a load of chutney... about 2 months ago... with rhuburb from the garden.... there were some woodier stalks.. which i left.. and only used some of the thin tender ones.....

but now the whole rhurburb plant...looks as though its taking over the garden... there is loads of thin... youngish stalks.....so can i still use them ? as now i am determind that NOTHING is wasted...

also.....i know slightly off thread... but.....

i am doing a car boot on sat... hopefully.... to get some funds in to throw at a c.c....

could i sell some there... and how much could i sell some for....the stalks are quite long... so how many stalks.. in one bunch to sell.. ?...

i would make more chutney... but havent got any spare jars... and cant afford to buy some at mo...

.any suggestions.....ideas......thoughts... would be appreciated........thanks....

You could freeze the rhubarb to use in pies and crumbles or to make more chutney later.

This replies on this thread will tell you how to freeze it: Freezing Rhubarb?

  • thanks pink-winged....will freeze.... some..later... but as its only me that likes it in our house....i will not freeze it all, as there is to much there... its the same with the chutney i made.... the others in the house say they are not going to eat it ..as they dont like rhuburb.... so.. we'll see..... but the chutney was made for christmas pressies.....along with the pickled onions that i will be doing shortly...all to go in hampers.....

I did read on another forum (River cottage) that you shouldn't eat rhubarb after June (I think), something to do with the oxalic acid in the leaves moving down into the stalks. I'd not heard this before so don't know if it's true, we usually eat it right through till the frosts but now I'm not sure.

I just used some rhubarb from the garden this morning to make a crumble. Never heard the thing about the acid moving down from the leaves before. *crosses fingers*
