help re tax codes

Im confused Ive just gone from temporary to permanent at work and was on tax code 379L1 and now Ive just received a letter stating that my new Tax code is 268T. I dont understand why or what this means? I've never had a T code before and really my pay only changed very very slightly so I dont get why my code changed so much.

:Doops no worries, they finally answered the phone, turns out they thought I had two jobs and so had split my personal allowance between the two! Never mind0
