shopping allowances

After talking to a debt managment company:mad: They informed me that the average family (2adults 2 children) were entitled to £120 a week for shopping as this is the average amount spent, they allow you at least £480month for shopping.
Makes you think doesn't it-the amount of people on here managing on £150 a month!!

What is the £120 pw to cover - just food, cleaning items and toiletries, or does it include budgeting for e.g. clothes, shoes, replacement of broken-down white goods, travel?

I have noticed that these 'what a family can live on' calculations often don't include things like contents insurance, which isn't a luxury. There's some scarily high proportion of families on benefits and low incomes who don't have contents insurance, but would be up a gum tree if they were burgled or had a fire or flood.

this is one way that people manage to pay off extra and get out of their DMP quicker.

night on 500 a month- Id be eating in waitrose & living like a king on that.

you could easily save 350 a month there and throw towards F&Fs

Makes the £30-35 a week that we spend on our supermarket shopping (two of us, without even really trying to save money!) look pretty paltry.

we were advised £500 for the 4 of us per month, thats how i'm managing to pay off some of the smaller debts this month, i've budgeted £250, so the other £250 will go off what I owe.

I think we used to easily spend that though, Tesco finest ready meals were our problem

The money is supposed to be for going out as well as food, toiletries and cleaning stuff.
I allow £120, spend £100 on above and have £20 for going out or if school wants money.
