Free software

Options
Hi all,

I have been using the following free software for about 2 years and have suffered absolutely no problems with hackers, viruses etc. They are available for free download from:

https://www.computeractive.co.uk/downloads/

Then search for:

Zonealarm - firewall (doesn't support Windows ME anymore)
Spybot - removes spyware (use together with Adaware for complete protection)
Adaware - removes spyware (use together with Spybot for complete protection)
Avast - anti-virus

All are extremely easy to download and install.

All these packages remind you when you need to update their library databases etc.

Hint:

1. Once you download the setup executable, store this in a safe place in case you ever need to re-install the software.
2. There's loads of other software available for free download from the same site. I also subscribe to their regular magazine and find it incredibly good value for money. Everything's explained in very clear language.

good luck

For free software, start with a free OS (operating system not old style) like gnu/linux then add free software from sites like sourceforge.net/freshmeat.net (there is windows software on there as well)

Maybe to technical for many but if you know your way round a computer...
