I have decided to make a career change and work for myself as a freelance groom with horses.
What do I need to do in terms of tax and self employment registration. Does it make a difference that I am paid cash in hand for all the work I do?
Very confused

Have a look at the HMRC website, lots of info about starting up as self employed: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/startingup/index.htm
Basically you will need to register as self employed as a sole trader. You will need to keep records of what money you earn, it being cash doesn't matter, as long as its all accounted for.
Good Luck with your new career!

The cash in hand is simple. Keep a duplicating receipt book on you and just give them a hand written receipt whether they want one or not. That way, you've a record.0
