Think it would depend on the shop/person doing it, but it can be done! My dress alterations are £115, to have the corset taken in and all the beading to put back, but that is being done by the bridal shop. An independent person working from home would prob be cheapist0

every alteration is different and the only person to tell you how much it will cost is the one doing the work but it is possible to have lace up back put in

How much weight do you need to lose to fit it? You could lose 2 stone or more in 8 weeks on some diets, I'm thinking inparticularly of the cambridge diet, but you will need to be disciplined but would definitely work if you stick to it 100%.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0

To be honest, if you need to lose 5 stone to fit into the dress, then I would sell it and buy another. I would think that that level of alteration would be complicated and pricey - what size is the dress and what size are you now/could you be by the wedding?0

Yes, it is possible to go from zip up to lace up. Thats exactly what im having done.
Only thing is that the "gap" at the back needs to be a certain size for the criss-crossing of the lace up back to look right. If the gap is too big then the sides have to be let out too. I would say that if alot of the 5stone to be lost is from your back/bust area then simply changing from zip to lace wont be enough.
Im sure Linda will be along soon, she is the resident seamstress. :-):jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -

Absolutely!!
But, it all depends on where your side seams sit. If they do not run directly to your side/under the armpits, you should consider buying another. I have added corset to zip back on a prom gown who the customer hasn't been able to do the zip up by about 3" at the top.
If you can get a piccy of you in it to me then I can have a shifty at it for you. x0 -
