buchanan clark + wells ... and E.on bill

I am sure I am not the first person to receive a letter from BCW so would be grateful for any help...

In a nutshell:
  • Eon had sent me an Estimated electricity bill, which I had overlooked in the post, for £254.78
  • Recd several reminders from them
  • I called them with readings and they agreed to send new bill to replace existing one
  • Meanwhile, receive nasty letter from BCW..
'Our client E-ON has authorised us to contact you regarding the above balance relating to your electricty supply. Despite several reminders your electricity account remains unpaid. If this remains unpaid it is our intention to pass this account to E.ON's Field Collections Team who will visit your property with a view to commencing disconnection activity if payment in full is not arranged or a prepayment meter cannot be fitted.

In order to avoid this you must contact us on 0844 571 4288 immediately...
Failure to contact us will result in an application being made for a Warrant of Entry under the Rights of Entry (Gas & Electricity Boards) Act 1954 to enter your property to fit a prepayment meter if possible or disconnect your supply...

The costs incurred in executing this warrant will be £230.00 which will be added to your account'...etc
  • Am i correct that they are just trying to scare me into paying them for the bill they have bought off E.On?
  • Have googled this so-called E.ON's Field Collections Team and come up with nothing. (Anyway, I don't understand why E.On would send a Field Collections Team for a bill they have agreed to cancel)
  • Can i just ignore BCW - or should I call them / write back?
Thanks a lot

Don't call them. And certainly not on a 0844 number. Write if you need to contact them

With it being electricity - i would try to come to an agreement - but only what is best for you, not whats best for the DCA.

I would call back E.On - If you have arranged to get a new bill from them and pay accordingly then they should be able to call them off.

I have heard a lot of bad things about BCW - if you do a search on this site you will find a large post with lots of other people's complaints about them.

    Hi spursfan323,

Buchanan Clark and Wells are a debt collection company that often collect debts associated with E.ON.

It’s possible that in this example the debt had been passed on before you contacted E.ON and the follow up is still continuing even though you have been told the account and bill will be corrected to the actual readings.

In the meantime, whilst the new bill is being corrected, all debt follow up on the account for the £254.78 should cease. I am very sorry if this has not happened.

I’d definitely contact E.ON not BCW and ask that whilst the bill accuracy/amount is in dispute the follow up stops.

Once the corrected bill is issued you can discuss payment arrangements with either E.ON or BCW, both parties should be happy to help with this.

I concur - give e.on a call and ask them to sort it out it's their mistake for passing the debt over so soon. They can sort things out as BCW has said, they're working for e. on. deal with them not a DCA.

I'm sure this can be solved easily - good luck with it.
    Today's Debt:
    B/Card = £6,410 F/D = £3,190
    Loan = £0 Woohoo!
    Total Debt = £9500
    Debt as of 26-1-11:
    Total Debt = £14,325
  • Hi,

Sorry to "jump in" on this post but I did a search for Buchanan Clark and found this thread.

A friend of ours has been being hassled by Buchanan Clark Wells (phone calls and ridiculously worded letters) for an EON bill of under £80.

EON are claiming this for electricity but for an address where there was a prepayment meter so there were no bills (a council flat). My friend has phoned EON several times but just gets dim people on the phone who don't or won't listen - when she tells them there could be no outstanding bill because there was a prepayment meter she had one person from EON explain to her that the bill has arisen because "the price of electricity fluctuates"....

She is becoming fed up with the continuous harassment by BCW and its solicitors threatening to start legal proceedings for monies she does not owe.

Please does anyone have any advice on what she should do? So far she hasn't written to them - she has only telephoned EON repeatedly but they take no notice or action. She is not really good at writing letters but I can help if someone can advise what we should be saying to make the harassment cease.

She has moved address now and is only receiving their letters under a mail redirection which is going to end soon - she is minded that they don't have his new address and to just ignore it but I have said it would be better to put something in writing so there is a record of his attempts in case they proceed to court.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
