But I am stuck on what fabric to use, I don't think lycra would be suitable.
Also 4 or 5 yards? OH is very tall but slimmer than me but i doubt he would wear it, normally i am a 8/10 but after i think more a 12/14.
I think they are amazing but £40 for a length of fabric

Hello - congratulations!
I think a thick jersey (t-shirt material) fabric is what the 'proper' ones are made of. There's a useful site
http://www.make-baby-stuff.com/make-a-baby-sling.html
which might be helpful for you.

My mum used tocarry me and my children in a "Welsh shawl". She wrapped it around herself somehow, the baby sat on her hip and she had both hands free! I could never get the hang of it, but someone else may know, and it was only an ordi nary blanket.I Believe in saving money!!!:T

Because it's an advert for an alternative, the above site gives a lot of detail about the type of fabrics used for various wraps0 -

Thanks for that link - i really enjoyed watching that clip.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
