... where to buy?
The smallish ones for domestic, kitchen caddy use with recycling food/organic waste.... our local Tescos say they don't stock them. Does anyone know where to get hold of 'em?

Get mine on Ebay, I use them for dog waste, not recommended i'm sure but what else are you meant to do with it?2 angels in heaven :A0

I've seen them in Asda and Wilkinsons, but you have to make sure they are made of the correct materials if they are collected by the local authority.
Ours provides all our bags as they don't want the wrong ones, they provide cornstarch bags.
Not all biodegradable bags are classed as compostable.0 -
Our Tesco sell them but so do Sainsbury's. I find Tesco's much better.Debt at start of DMP 1/6/09: £2942 - £1942
Buffer Zone 1; £84 -

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If its any help, the carrier bags from Tesco are bio-degradable.
I can vouch for this as I sometimes save them for bin bags and within a few weeks they do infact biodegrade.0 -
You cannot use biodegradable plastic bags in a food waste bin, they must be compostable. The local supermarkets around here sell them, but a couple of websites I am aware of (I've never used them) are: http://www.caddiesandliners.co.uk/

While they break down in to small bits of plastic that you cannot see, most supermarket bags do not biodegrade, just degrade. It seemingly helps with the litter problem as they're no longer visible as plastic bags in trees and rivers, but the environmental effects of releasing lots of little bits of plastic are questionable. They're not suitable for composting, and won't produce any materials that are beneficial to your compost when they break down.
I've been lining my compost bucket with newspaper. Not entirely waterproof, but I find it keeps it very clean, at most needing a quick rinse out after being emptied.0
