Well done although worried you have gone out and bought a new car to celebrate, where you gone?????
hey guys thanks for all the support. No I haven't been out splashing the cash. Not sure how to start but basically we bought a run down house which needed alot of cash and as it was bigger than our 1st house our mort doubled. All was well I got credit cards to pay for the DIY etc we paid £3.5k for a new roof and £1.5k for guttering plus the WHOLE house needed doors/carpets/curtains/etc basically everything but, as I am good wIth money I wasn't worried.

Then in April 04 OH bought new car £4k and we decided to sell his old one private, but no takers. Meanwhile I HAD A MID LFE CRISIS I THINK and bought an MR2 for 12K I traded in my car and OH'S OLD CAR ( without telling him) and took out a loan for £5k( v shrt term got it on a credit card ASAP) and put the rest on a cc.

I still wasn't too worried as we worked full time and I sent £600 pcm to CC and didn't want to have children.

    4days later I got pregnant!!!
Loads of problems she was 10wks early and at this point OH car started having problems and we couldn't risk keeping it (engine cutting on motorway!!) with a baby so traded in and bought another car extra £1k . I then took 1yr out. However the house was finished so at least the bills were static. We owed in total more than £11k but that was the amount when the sh1* hit the fan.

Every pay day I paid the CC online the 2nd I woke up, so if we ran out of money tough!! at least cc , mortgage and bills were paid. For the 3 month unpaid mat I just paid £50
I cancelled everything SKY/ S/O for£50mth which we used for treats./no holidays/ no clothes/ went through stuff in house and sold in loot. Walked everywhere wouldn't use the car. Followed the threads for cheap grocery shopping/ never used mobile (onlyPAYG) unless emergency. Didn't go out drinking any nites were parties at m8s house with Lambrini!!! ( I kid you not)
I used to go into town with DD in pram and knew where cheapest milk/butter/bread were. changed over gas/electric supplier. xmas gifts were always in sale and bought them over the yr so didn't feel it.
OH took butties to work. Xmas/birthdays asked for money and sent it to CC. I was basically tighter than cramp.

I check online banking daily and know when I am having a good month if I had odd amounts in teh a/c say £34.12 I would transfer the £4.12 to cc.
Also the day before payday whatever was left in a/c( sometimes nothing) i withdrew it and put it in a envelope and sealed it, gave it my mum and then give her the bill went it came and paid off extra.

Also bought a lot of stuff for dd 2nd hand car boots ( always look at their car if it is clean it is usually a good indicator or the stuff they are selling) And cots etc found shops that paid on never never.

Sold MR2 for massive loss but now have nice little peugeot which is paid for.

And that in a nut shell is how we did it.
Will I go back into debt? No.
Would I change any of it? Prob not. I owned my dream car for a short while so no regrets. The house is finished and finally I wouldn't change DD for anything in the world. She was worth it.

went out today for the first time in a long long while and bought a dress for my friends wedding. My parents gave me £100 (I was wandering why they waited till I was debt free as it would have been useful last month, but they said they wanted me to spend it on me me and me. )

However even though my dress is yummy. Old habits die hard and there I was scavaging in the sale section at Debenhams and got a lovely dress for £30 I already had matching shoes and best mate is lending me a bag and shawl.

I think I will always be a MSE now it is just ingrained I don't think I would have felt as nice if the dress had cost a fortune.

without trying to sound like a patronising pain in the !!!. The euphoric feeling of being debt free is just undescribeable, so anyone feeling crap cos they are in debt and feel like packing in. DON'T cos honestly you will get there and then you can come on here like I did this week and tell the all MSE and we will all post lovely messages.
