It depends on is it £8 per week extra AFTER travel and lunch at work costs have been included or not??

    And

Do you find being unemployed boring and dull?

Why did you bother applying for the job before checking its salary though?

It depends on what the prospects are with the job. If it is a dead end sort then it isn't worth it for £8 a week. You could earn more than that doing daily clicks or survey filling. Also there are some cuts coming up so I'd check out whether your benefits would even start to drop so the job would be more attractive. With rises in the income tax thresholds you may also find you're much better off in work than your calculations suggest. I'd certainly double check what you'd be entitled to benefits wise even while working.

Jobs have to pay much more than benefits to make them worthwhile frankly. If pay is so poor you can get nearly as much money from sitting on your bum all day then either benefits are too high (which they probably aren't) or pay is too low (which it probably is) or the tax system is totally wrong (true again).

If you need to buy new clothes or anything else than that £8 isn't going to go far. Being on benefits gives you other discounts and health care which you'd lose once working. Unless you can rapidly increase your pay or move onto a better job you may find out you're worse off in work!

Can you negotiate a better salary/more hours with them as they have offered you the job so obviously want you?

Surely you would at least be making minimum wage? (or my be less if you are younger age bracket?) £5.80 x 30 hour week = £174.00 x2 weeks (compared to JSA) = £348.00 (before tax)

JSA is roughly £129.99 (age dependent) per fortnight?

    Are you on other benefits?
