How long for refund

Options
Hello

I was on the wrong Tax Code since April,I have contacted the Tax Office and this has been amended (Im PAYE)
Does anyone know how long a refund is likely to take /think its about £300/£400? and any idea how this will be paid?

The Tax Office said it was a computer error!Quick to take the overpayment but I assume slow to refund?!

Thanks

    you assume wrong

what code were you on and what are you expecting it to be

If you have been on the incorrect code since April then once the correct code is used by your employer / pension provider, it will back date to any payments since April 6th and refund all overpaid tax in one go.

It will appear in your wages.

  • there's been quite a few stories in the news recently about incorrect tax codes and rebates taking ages though. I'd keep chasing them personally

Now that HMRC have corrected their error the ball is in your employers court. suso is correct you will receive the refund when your employer operates the correct code for the first time.

Rebates for previous tax years require a cheque from HMRC. These are taking ages.

Rebates for the current tax year are applied on the first paycheck after the correct code is entered on the employer's system.

Hi, we are due a very big tax refund from last yr, we received a letter telling us so but no explanation as to how to get it back. Do they just automatically send it to you if it is correct?

    TIA
