Hello, whilst reading the retailing publication entitled "The Grocer" in my office, they mentioned that Tesco were due to launch a shopping catalogue along the same lines of Argos.
Anyway, just went on the Tesco website: http://www.tesco.com/
and there is a little advert for it now stating Tesco Direct - coming soon.
Yippeeee soon there will be more ways to shop at Tescos !!!

I've "known" about "this" for about about 6 or 7 weeks.
For those that don't know ....
..if you've ever used "saynoto0870" and looked for Tesco electical on an 0800 number, then you will have discovered the number where the call centre answers "Grattan" (PLC) but will deal with your Tesco Electrical etc issues.
Having had an "issue" I phoned the number and had a very nice discussion with a very nice lady who helped tremendously.
One of the conversations revolved around the fact that the "electrical" department could not tell me which of their physical stores actually stocked any of a particular range of "electrical" goods.
Turned out in-store electrical and online electrical had ABSOLUTE ZERO connection with each other which, amongst other things, explained the frequent price differential, end of line & clearance of items at 1 of them but not the other, that Tesco stores had no idea about "online electrical" promotions, and that store stock levels of "non-grocery" items could only be obtained by phoning the particular store in question.
For instance, it is possible to phone Tesco CS and ascertain which of their stores stocks a certain brand of sausages or potatoes or toothpaste, and they can tell you how many are in stock at that branch of each and every size of packet/tin/tube available.
Ask about a TV or radio and the response is a deafening silence.
Why ? - GRATTANS !!!!!!!!!!
Tesco ONLINE "electrical" are/were Grattans - or at least had a significant tie in with regards to buying/selling/distribution etc.
Tesco stores stock no items, or at best very very few, that had any connection with those supplied by Tesco electrical (ie Grattans), and the Tesco wholesale buyers of such items had no control over the prices of them and distribution of them into the supermarkets. This was done by a total separate team of buyers basically working for a different company.
Apparently Tesco at some point decided that they wanted to bring the two "sales fronts" together, such that what is on sale in one sales environment will be available in the other, or at least most offers will be across the board, and that items such as TVs and radios will be "centrally" sourced for both retail outlets - in-store & online.
I was told the Tesco online/electrical division & Grattans "partnership" was coming to an end very soon, with September 2006 being mentioned regards the "launch" of Tesco's own replacement online "catalogue" service over which they would have direct control. There are 10 types of people in the world. ‹(•¿•)›(11)A104.28S94.98O112.46N86.73D101.02(12)J130.63F126.76M134.38A200.98M156.30J95.56J102.85A175.93
