CV question

I am looking for administrative roles should I put this in my Cv that I am looking for these sorts of jobs? As my cv has just a general personal at the moment.

  • Hi Matt

Yes, you should mention it in the last part of your profile eg 'Now seeking to expand and develop my skills in an administrative role'. You can probably write something better than that but you get the idea.

Also make sure you are tailoring your CV if you are applying for a specific job advertisement. A generic CV is often obvious and may be discarded by a potential employer.

    Good luck

If you don't put it in, they won't find the key word!

What are you putting in that personal profile section? Is it subjective - about your being hard-working, trustworthy, reliable, a quick learner, a team player but also using your own initiative?

I used to work as a recruiter, and I can tell you that most agencies use candidate databases that are very basic, and usually rubbish.

Sometimes the administrators just upload the CV's without adding any tags or keywords to identify you on a search.

So my advice is to tailor your CV to admin as much as possible and use a lot of words like "administration, admin etc", and include all of the software you've used, as a typical search might be for "admin, excel, word". That was even if you're details havn't been properly registered, your CV should still come up on the searches.
  • hi, definitely make sure you include admin type skills in the CV as well - demonstrate that you can do the job as well as that you want it. Software you can use, any spreadsheet / database work (can be based on personal use such as your own budget!).

I used to do a lot of admin temping and when I added those details it helped me get a lot more jobs. I had a "skills" section before my employer history.

Also - when applying to jobs directly you have a great opportunity in the cover letter / email to state why you want the job.

Are you going through recruiters directly as well as online? Often once people have met you it's easier to sell you...

    Good luck!
