BBQ Gas Bottles (Patio) Where from ?!?!?!

Hi Guys

Where do you all get your BBQ gas bottles from? OH been to B&Q this morning, and was told they needed a £30 deposit, and the bottle was £29, then the 3kg refill was £7.99 and for 13kg was £19.99.

Thought this was bit pricey, esp as you only get your £30 back, if you return the bottle in a week!!!

Seems cheaper to eat out?? £59 seems an awful lot of money.:o

Thanks in advance

xx

    Hiya

It's donkey's years since we got ours but I am fairly sure it was from local hardware store/caravan place or something like that. Yes there is a deposit for the bottle but I am sure it was fairly modest. Just did a quick Google on gas suppliers and came up with the following link:

    http://www.camping-gas.com/stockists.asp?BrandFilter=

Maybe have a look at that or in your local phone book. I'm sure you can find a much better deal. Good luck.
  • ooh, if you don't want to do that anyway, shop around. We have some lessor brands up here that do the bottles for a £19.99 hire. The only problem is that you cannot get the refills as readily, as you have to take the correctly branded bottle to the correct store.
  • Someone suggested that we went to the local tip/recycling centre. It depends obviously whether anyone has brought any in. We went and asked and they gave us two and all we had to do was take it somewhere to get it exchanged for ones full up with gas and just pay for the refills.
  • FLogas do the bottles without a deposit. last 13kg i bought a few weeks ago cost £21 and was delivered free of charge too

Does not make sense. You need to pay the initial deposit then the refill charge. Two charges not three.

Or try your local council tip, a quite word and a fiver normally 'allows' you to walk away with an bottle (probably empty but not always) which you can then exchange.

I second the 'tip' method mentioned above - youu can usually get an empty bottle for about £5 from there, alternatively, see if either any friends / family have an empty bottle they no longer need, or ask on freecycle, or check caravan clubs / sites etc.

Then you can exchange the empty bottle for a full one and just pay for the gas and repeat when empty.

Strictly speaking, individuals don't own any Calor gas cylinder - the cylinders themselves remain the property of the company.
In the real world of course people buy and sell them, and no doubt do get them from recycling tips - but you could potentially lose out if you try to trade in a defective one, it could simply be seized on the grounds of being unsafe, and if they reckon it's been made unsafe by your neglect, they won't necessarily replace it. See the legal gobbledegook on the Calor website - https://secure.calor.co.uk/ordercalorcylinders/refill.asp

I got mine from the local tip.

Also I'm pretty sure that the 'deposit' is actually never refunded - hence they turn up at the tip. Pretty misleading.
