Travelling between Belfast and Bangor

Hi,
We are planning a trip to Bangor for a few days and have booked to see a show in Belfast Opera House.
I know we can travel by train from Bangor to Belfast but wondered there is a more "moneysaving" way of doing this.
In Glasgow, we can buy a day ticket for the first buses which allows us to travel on any of their buses within the region all day.
Unfortunately I can't find anything on the Translink website and wondered if they do something similar, whereby we could do a bit of site seeing during the day and use the same ticket at night to take us to Belfast for the show.
Can any of you lovely people help me and let me know if there is such a thing and if there is, do we just buy it on the bus or do we need to buy it before hand.

I'm not 100% if such a thing exists to be honest. Within Belfast you use the Metro bus service but for any journey which goes outside of Belfast you use Ulsterbus. I don't think you can get tickets that crossover but you could get a weekly train pass or a multi-journey ticket for Ulsterbus but apart from that I'm at a loss.
Not much help I know - sorry!0 -
If you get a return ticket from Bangor to Belfast leaving after 9:30am its only £5 return. This works out nearly as cheap as a monthly ticket. A one way ticket is £4.90. Its a very scenic train ride and the trains are high standard.
I think the buses have what you where talking about, a day ticket, where you can travel all day for one price. Not something I have ever done, but its only the Metro buses that operate in the city centre, not as far out as bangor.0 -
Definitely go by train - the station is just by the Opera House. If you go by bus I think you have to traipse to and from Laganside bus station which is quite a long way away and difficult to find.0

Translink offer an iLink card, although you wouldn't know it from their horrendous website, which might suit you. However, like all Translink fares, it's ridiculously expensive, so might not be worthwhile unless you are doing a lot of travelling.
Information is here:

Thank you all for your replies.
I think we will just stick with a return train journey.
We can maybe just do sightseeing in Belfast that day.0 -
Small chance of this I suppose, but if you're travelling on a Sunday, Translink offer an unlimited day pass for the trains for £6.*insert witty comment here*0
