Capquest and Tmobile

My 20 year old sister (stupidly) took out a £40/18mth contract with T-mobile for her 17 year old friend. This is despite the fact that the friend does not work, despite the fact that the friend has an older sister and mother (who it now transpires has a poor credit rating) who could have taken out the contract for her. Low and behold her friend has not been paying the contract (I could have told her this would have happened if she had asked me first!)
Anyway, the contract was terminated with T-mobile and the debt sent to Capquest. It shouldn't be any more than £600. Can anyone tell me:
a) what this will appear as on her credit file? (i.e. is this considered a default?)
b) the debt is in her name but being sent to the her friends house.
What's the best way to deal with this? I just want to pay this off so it's not hanging over her head as she's about to go to uni and is messing up her credit rating over sheer stupidity.
Thanks for all replies.

Bump!
Could you afford to pay it off for her? It might not be the most sensible thing to do money wise but if you pay it off so it's not hanging over her head, she can pay you back at the rate you both agree on and without (hopefully! lol) threatening letters through the door.0 -
Credit files/ratings are nothing to be afraid of - life still goes on regardless.
Send Capquest a prove it letter..that should keep them busy for a while.....0 -
I'm on a DMP and T-Mobile/Crapquest are one of my creditors. I get a default every single month

Are you sure you are not just seeing the same default remain unsatisfied?
If not it looks like a big mistake that needs sorting, there is only one default for a debt, and it is either satisfied or unsatisfied.0
