Epilator Advice

Hi
I am about to venture einto the unknown realms of epilaton. I really need advice on what ios the best kind to get. I am fed up with shaving. I love the feeling of waxing but my local salon has closed and it means a trip to the nearest town which doesn't always fit in with my busy life so I think epilation is the way to go.
Pain doesn't really bother me and I can lie through a brazilian and barely feel a single sting (pernineal nerve damage from surgery sometimes has it's advantages)
So I am looking for recommendations from you lovely ladies here on what epilator you find best and why.
thanks in advance :A

oo this is great, ive just done a post on alternatives to shaving as im thinking of waxing.
whats the epilator lark?0 -
I just invested in a Braun epilator (the one that was advertised in TV a few weeks ago) for the same reasons as you and decided that it would be cost effective as it would only take about 6 months to pay for itself (vs. paying about £15 every 6 weeks, which I can no longer afford).
The Braun one is either wet or dry, although I've only used it dry and it can also be used as a shaver which I use on my underarms as the only time I've had my underarms waxed was one of the most painful things known to man :rotfl:. It also has different heads so you can use it on various parts of the body
I would have no hesitation in recommending it, my legs felt very smooth afterwards, like when they are first waxed and the regrowth is probably the same as waxing. I must admit that I don't have massively hairy legs due to having my legs waxed reguarly for several years and also because of that I didn't find it painful but I think that if you're not used to being waxed it would be fairly painful - but then so is waxing till you get used to it.
I'm really pleased with it, just wish I'd bought one years ago!
BTW: to Kt8 - an epitlator is something that looks like an electric shaver but it rips the hairs out by the roots :rotfl:0 -
I've epilated for years and swear by it.
Some folk prefer to have a shower then epilate but I just go for it then have a shower. Once my legs are TOTALLY dry I use one of these then moisturize.
I do legs, underarms and bikini.
If you don't like it to start with persevere, my mum hates it and doesn't persevere then wonders when she does do it why it does last as long as mine.
Oh yeah and I do mine in circles if I have time but if I'm hurrying it I just go up and down and remember to pull the skin as taught as possible
Good luck and happy epilatingEveryone is entitled to their opinionEllie 25/12/070 -
I have heard the newer versions are much less painful. I got myself an epilator called the "Silk Epi Xelle" about 4 years ago now which is by Braun. I do not like it. Luckily it has an electric shaver also combined. I have yet to use it and not draw blood, I tried my underarms, first and last time, I then wore a t-shirt afterwards.
I kid you not the entire under arm section of the tshirt was red and soaked in blood! I knew I had cut my skin with the thing but I didn't anticipate just how long it would bleed for. (But atleast I got the hairs!!)
Legs were fine, but did give me a few pin !!!!! marks and ingrowing hairs- you must exfoliate every day if not twice a day thereafter to prevent ingrowing hairs.
Apparently the newer Brauns are less painful so my advice would be to not skimp on cost and get an older version. I am waiting for the newer versions to go down in price.
I did see a different sort of design offered on QVC a few years ago, apparently designed to cause less pain, it was made of three wheels which rotated to take out more hairs at a time and not to rip the skin in the way the spiky rolling pin type version I have does. Not tried it myself and the girls on QVC trying it didn't convince me, maybe someone who has tried it will comment?0 -
Hi, I have just ventured into the world of epilation and I am really happy with the results. I bought the Braun silk epilator from boots, here is the link, http://www.boots.com/en/Braun-Silk-epil-Xpressive-Pro-Wet-Dry-Body-Face-Rechargeable-Epilator-7681_1043426/?CAWELAID=456200444&cm_mmc=Shopping%20Engines-_-Google%20Base-_---_-Braun%20Silkepil%20Xpressive%20Pro%20Wet%20%20Dry%20Body%20%20Face%20Rechargeable%20Epilator%207681
it is reduced and if you have got your boots leaflet through post yet you can get double points too! Just wish I had waited another week now, I received mine two days after buying mine! Whoops.
I haven't used it wet yet but using it dry is good, i found it to be quite painless on my legs but couldn't bear it on my underarms. As people keep saying you need to bear with it so I am going to try when in shower to see if that would be easier to bear. I use it at night because I got red spots on legs afterwards and by the morning they were gone. I find it quicker than shaving and I use a nice moisturiser on my legs afterwards. You get a shaver attachment and a couple of attachments for underarms and facial use. It also has a handy light which is good.

I bought the Braun wet and dry one a few months ago. I think it's great too. I was worried about how painful it would be and that it would take a long time to do my legs, but I can honestly say doing my legs isn't painful at all and it's quicker than I thought it would be. I do my armpits too and that does hurt but it only takes a minute so it's bearable.
I used to have my legs waxed and I think that hurt a lot more.0 -
I bought a Braun (5780) one on Friday and I loved it! I have PCOS which is one of the reasons I decided to have a goas I was fed up constantly shaving. I got a bit carried away and spent hours epilating (instead of watching the football:rotfl:) I usually have to shave every day but my legs, undearms still feel smooth today. I was surprised when it didnt hurt after some time, it was almost like my body got used to the pain and switched off (which is when I decided to do my underarms!) So far its been a good buy :T2025: 52 wk envelope challenge #8 £382Vinted sales for 2025 = £45Surverys 2025 £14.250

wow thanks so much for all the great replies ladies. Sorry it took so long to reply but I ended up without net access.
I was in Boots today and saw the Braun and was seriously tempted to get it and then restrained myself and told myself to wait till I was able to get back and check this thread. I think I will definately go for this but it needs to wait till payday so hopefully it will still be on offer.
thanks again for your great replies :T:T:T:T0 -
I bought a Phillips epilator two weeks ago but have since suffered terribly from ingrowing hairs and I use an exfoliating mitt on my legs everyday. They just look terrible at the moment so am thinking about giving it up and going back to shaving (never had a problem when shaving)Thank you all who post.0
