Hi
I am a single mummy and currently on IS
I want to try to see for commision.
I have found a site that I am happy with and have signed up
I know I have a £20 weekly allowance on IS
My questions.... sorry this is all new to me
Will I need to register as self employed?
If I register will I loose my IS?
what happens about NI contributions etc and tax
as this is very early days I can not even see me reaching the £ 20 that I am allowed, based on this , would I still need to do the above?
I want to do everything above board, but if this means I could be worse of, then I wont continue with earning on commision
thanks
Michelle

It depends on whether you will be employed or not. You're best speaking to the Benefits Agency, they will give you the exact details you need based on your current claim. If you do earn money while you are claiming certain benefits and don't declare it, you might find yourself in Court. As for being worse off by working, maybe that is not the right way to think about it. If you want to work the Benefits Agency will help although I understand how some benefits and associated enhancements make people better off not working.0

no I didnt mean it like that........
I ment worse off if I tried to go down this route to work, meaning that selling on commision , so I dont know from week to week , what I may earn..... and if I loose my IS , and not earn anything in commision what then.... this is what I ment
just for the record, I have worked all my life from 16 years old , until my daughter at 35 years old, and I didnt leave the job I was made redundant... 2 month afte rmy redundancy , I was on a goverment training scheme, but last year financially, I had to get work, so I stopped the course, but I was laid of in feb, didnt need me anymore, with one weeks notice, which has never happened to me before, and scared the hell out of me, that employer can treat there workers in this way, no matter the circumstances. after this it has taken until last month to get my rent back up to date, becuase everything payment wise was so messed up!!
so this is why I am looking down this route, so no employer can screw me over again!!
