Hair colouring query.

Hi, I had my hair coloured wwith a semi permanent or maybe permanent (not sure) dye at the hair dressers about 3 weeks ago.
At the time I thought it was a bit light in tone.
Cut to today and despite me wearing asunhat in the garden, it has lightened up a good bit further :(
Iam going to my daughters graduation next week and she dosent like my hair when it is " a bit orangey Mum!"
So the question is can I do a home job on top of it?
I have , upstairs, a sachet of stuff says it lasts about 4 washes. But it also says do not use on greye. Well my greys are all filled in at present. Do you think I should risk it?
Sorry for the long waffley post.but I could do with some opinions here.
Arty.

You may just need a toner to take out the orangeness out of the colour. An ashy toner would do this. What colour do you want it to be?

Its so hard to know what to call it!
My own old natural pre going grey hair was a very dark brown but thats too harsh for me now.
At present its mid brown with lighter faded ends and top.
Its not really too bad, theres no grey showing maybe I should ' nt risk messing it up?

A toner is just something that will deposit a colour. I used to use Wella shaders & toners but I used it for blonde hair to take out the brassiness. If you really want to do it at home, you could go into Sally's and someone there will be able to look at your colour and advise you on a product that can tone down the orangeness.

Thanks, I dont normally do my own colour but since I shelled out £35 a few weks ago I dont want to pay any more then necessary!
I normally find the hairdresser done colour lasts longer than a home job besides which I normally ruin a toewl,a bath mat and have even mananged to stain the vinyl floor and wooden venetian blind in the passt!

Have you asked the salon if they will correct the colour for you? I had a similar mis- colour just before Christmas and my hairdresser was happy to redo it free of charge for me.

If you do go again to get your hair coloured, normally all colours fade to some degree, but they never get darker (unless you do something to make them darker eg dye them).

You can use a home colour if you want a more perminant result, you can colour over anything which is paler then what the box says but beware that some colours are not as opaque as others and you may find the current colour of your hair affects the colour you chose to redye (ie if your looking at a brown hair colour but have "orange" har your likely to get a warmer brown then is on the box as the 'orange' has affected it) Not all dyes are like that though, rule of thumb is the more perminant ones tend not to be as opaque.

Flippin is spot on though, a toner should sort you out though, Wella make some, do buy a few -or better yet, superdrug sells their own wash-in-wash-out versions which have 3 applications in (I could swear they are made by Wella!) They will last one or two washes an application so you may need to reapply every other wash. (Applying is just leaving on wet hair for 5 or so minutes). For a deeper affect I have applied to dry hair in the past, you need to use more of the stuff and leave in for a little longer but the colour is stronger.
