hi have been signed up to get my credit report alerts from equifax for a while and yesterday i got an email saying that there had been a change to my linked addresses on 3rd of june.
when i checked it, it was showing as my brothers address where he hasnt lived at for 9 years in a town 4 hours drive and where he used to live with his girlfriend at the time.
the name is coming up as a foreign name of a female born in the same year but completely different month and day showing a credit search from hsbc,
how can this happen? why am i showing as being linked to an address as a completely different person to an address ive never lived at??
any ideas and what do i do about it

has a search also appeared in any forname with your surname, as if so someone has applied for a joint account this would create the link and the person applying has used this past address to maybe get trhough a credit check. It sounds dodgy to me and I would be in touch with HSBC quite urgently so if it is fraud it can be nipped in the bud.
I dont have their details but if anyone who is a member of credit expert banks with them, then they usually get an address at least to write to.0 -
i dont understand how ive been even linked to this address.
its not even my name or date of birth thats come up/
does this mean maybe my brother was applying for things in my name years ago, he left there and someone else has started??
its not even my name, im so confused0 -
can anyone help me with this. i dont understand how credit reports work and certainly not how i can be linked with an address ive never lived at0

I read a very similar post here before, the problem is with Equifax, something to do with the way linked addresses appear on their reports, if you raise an online dispute with them telling them that this is an old address of your brother, I'm sure they will sort this out for you.0
