This is a bit of a rant but why is it that every tax offices are streaming voice message that says "we are very busy at the moment, try ringing later etc" all the time on Saturday? It was like that last week too. Trying difference offices, they are all the same.

West Yorkshire & Craven 0845 302 1432
Suffolk 0845 366 7824
Leicester & Northamptonshire 08457 302 1442
ok tired of typing now....
Or is it impossible to get through to them on Saturday? Who gets through on Saturday....well not me though.

Although you are calling a different number they all route through to the same place as the network of call centres have little to do with the local tax offices.
It is busy on a Saturday because lots of people are trying to call. Quiet times are early in morning and late evening during the week.0 -
i had all this this afternoon, but i was smart and had enough of being cut of i no they do it when they have a high amount of work , but if you choice on option are different and i got though !!!
i chose querying tax code and other details hope that works x0 -
HMRC plan to cut down on the numbers the public have to call and some time in the future it will be like calling your bank - 1 number for one business stream. That doesn't necessarily mean a better service:o, but apparently it's cheaper that way.
All their helplines are extra busy at the moment with "customers" still trying to get their tax codes sorted, progress chasing refund claims, asking for help with tax returns and asking for help filing online, . They can't allocate other contact centre staff from the likes of Tax credits or child benefit to answer taxes calls because they are busy too with people renewing their tax credits or calling to confirm their children are staying on in education.
Not much comfort I know but if all else fails call into your local Enquiry Centre and ask for an appointment there to get your query sorted. Take 2 forms of ID with you (1 photographic and 1 utility bill or bank statement) just in case they have a free appointment on the day. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
