    To my knowledge - and I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice - the only debt that you can actually go to prison for is the council tax.

    Unless you have committed some sort of criminal offense like fraud or deception, you will not go to prison for being unable to pay your debts.

    Thankfully the debtors prison went out when Dickens died :T

    To cofirm what Tixy has said you do need to sort out the DWP debt as they will take further action.
    As it was not the DWP's errer they have slightly different guidelines to follow AFAIK.
    Its not going to go away unfortunatly.
