No pay rise as I'm temporary worker - is this right?

Sounds like someone in HR got it wrong and when they figured it out they had to tell you all the next day. I guess, if they paid you more they'd have to pay your agency more as well? That could end up eating a big hole into their budget!
I understand that you're upset though, it's not your fault but it's just one of those things unfortunately.0 -
I don't think an agency is involved in this. Sounds as if the OP is employed directly by the employer.Material_Girl wrote: »Sounds like someone in HR got it wrong and when they figured it out they had to tell you all the next day. Our names were shouted out as new starts included in with 2 permanent employees that started after me doing other roles. It was only the day after they said we were entitled. Seems odd telling us all that, treating us the same as the employees then telling us we weren't getting it. I suppose I'm a bit upset with them changing their minds.
Nope, sorry but it doesn't clarify. This is one of the difficulties with employment law - people think it is easier and more straightforward than it is, and the devil is usually in all the things they either don't think of mentioning or don't know. It is entirely possible that the two new and permanant starts were told that they were not entitled to the pay rise either. I don't think you will find many people who would dispute that it is somewhat unfair or disappointing for you, but the point still remains that even if you were able to demonstrate a legal case, which remians far from certain, would you want to start one? Otherwise, venting about it might make you feel better, but it isn't worth worrying about. Life is too short to get upset over things you can't or won't change, and as another poster here observed, it isn't unusual for these types of temporary cover to lead to something more long lasting, so perhaps something good will come of it all.0 -

I think something good has already come from this experience.
The OP has learnt the disdain the employer has towards them and if I were the OP I would be offski at the end of the fixed term... if not sooner.

None of the temps came through agencies, we all applied individually.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. Life is too short but I just didn't appreciate being told one thing then another. I am looking for a permanent job, unfortunately there just isn't a lot out there! I was in my local Homebase today and was told they're shutting the store completely. I suppose that made me realise there really isn't a lot of work out there but it shouldn't give employers the right to treat someone like carp.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. Keep any eye on it. I'm sure another business will soon move in and they will probably need new employees
Or they'll probably knock it down due to the current crazy laws of this land.
Or of not, the owners will probably want security in place.
All potential opportunities
