Slugs in the house

Anyone got any ways to prevent slugs in the house? Its an old house so blocking all the gaps is not an option. I don't want to use slug pellets because I've got cats who would be dumb enough to eat them.

Hi Peanut...you could try copper tape. It would pay to block all gaps anyway against heat loss.

We have an old house which had slugs indoors when we arrived and it was really damp due to gutters falling down and not being repaired. However we have dogs and didn't use pellets, but we did use table salt every time we found one. As the house dried out and as we killed them one by one, they have now been eliminated, but I still have table salt at the ready! Also I used the salt and beer in an old dish outside where I thought they were getting in, killed loads!2020

Thanks for the help. I'd love to block all the gaps and try to when I find them but the place is so old there are so many of them. Its a basement flat as well so will never dry out properly. I have been getting them when I find them but after 5 years they are still coming and I've heard of the beer thing in allotments before I think it would end up being drunk by the cats if I tried it here. I've heard of the copper tape being used on plant pots but didn't think of it thanks for that tip. I think they come out from under my washing machine so I'll try putting the copper tape there it should at least be able to stop some of them."You are entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts" - Arthur Schlesinger

We had a massive problem with slugs in our living room until last year. It finally got to the point we couldn't ignore it any more, so we started filling in holes, but, like you, found it's just not possible.
Only thing that worked was a ring of salt around the edge of the room.
In the end we found the problem was a blocked air brick and compromised dpc (idiot we bought the house off had plastered over on the inside and chipped out the tar that formed the Victorian damp proof on the joist supports). We managed all the remedial work ourselves/with family, but it was a big job - lift half the floor, install damp proof membrane, replace rotten joists, replace a few rotten floorboards. Anyway, long story, but my point is - you might like to check just in case there's some bigger problem.
