scratched glasses

After accidentally knocking my (14 month old) glassses onto the bathroom tiled floor this evening, I have noticed that the right lens is slighly scratched. The glasses are wearable which I am rather relieved at albeit it feels like I am looking through a dirty right lens which of course can't be cleaned.

The glasses cost (14 months ago) £179 for the frames and lens and I seem to remember that a good proportion of the price was for the frames only.

Does anyone have any idea of what kind of price I could expect to pay if i just had the scratched lens replaced ? or both lens replaced ? I will add that my glasses did not come from a high street optician but an opticians that is local to me and only has a few branches in my town.

THANK YOU

Pop into the opticians where you got your glasses, (or any high street opticians really) the scratches may polish out.
Failing that, ask them how much it will be to replace the lenses. Unless you have a really special prescription it
    shouldnt be a great deal.

Cant you find your receipt from last time.
Learn from it and keep all receipts for at least a year.

Presumably the lenses will need recoating once the scratches have been polished out?
  • Hi,
if you have an up to date prescription (most opticians advise tests every 2 years) and your frame is in good condition you can have it reglazed. vision express have a variety of lenses but they do have a single vision lense for £35.00 for a pair, they wont glaze just one lense though. the bigger opticians are your best bet. are you on any benefits?? if you are, that may help, other than that vision express is your best bet

I'm afraid it's not possible to polish out scratches - it alters the optics of the lens. Have a chat with the practice where you got them from - they may reduce the cost as a gesture of goodwill.

You could try Select Specs' reglazing service:
    http://www.selectspecs.com/

Obviously this may not be ideal for you if you don't have any backup eyewear but if you can cope without them for a few days it might be worth a try? I used them for putting my prescription in a pair of retro glasses and it only cost me £15. They were very quick too.
