Career change - health/therapy assistant.

Hi all, first time poster, long time reader here.

I graduated from uni 2 years ago with a degree in graphic design, I then worked for 18 months as a graphic designer, I've recently moved home and as a result I'm currently unemployed and feel this is a perfect time to make a change in career.

There are several reasons why I want to change, some to do with the nature of graphic design and the industry, but mainly because I don't want to be sat in front of a computer for the rest of my life and I also want to do a job where I directly help people. I value job satisfaction over money any day.

I've been researching Health/Therapy Assistant type jobs and I've also been applying for Teacher Assistant jobs as I've been told being male could be considered a plus for this particular post? (first time I think that has ever happened :D ) - I also think the experience will be a great stepping stone for moving onto other related areas.

I have several years admin experience working for the NHS which will hopefully come in useful.

Sorry I know this post is a little rambling and unfocused, but at the moment I just feel strongly that I want to do a 'people' based job and wonder if anybody has any advice/experience getting into this area.

Thanks.

When you say health assistant are you meaning healthcare assistant? If so check your local trusts website. They are always being advertised.
Failing that care homes are always after people.
Then theres physio/occy health/dietician/physician assistants. Working in the outpatients dept. Mental health suport workers.
In fact most health care professional type jobs are always looking for assistants.

Can't help much with the teaching assistant side of things.
    Future Mrs Gerard Butler :D

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I think I'd prefer the physio/occupational/physician/mental health side of things, it's really encouraging that you say they are always looking for assistants, I want to just get my foot in the door at the moment and then I suppose I can decide where I want to go as my experience grows.
